Holiday Events for the Community
ANDOVER – After experiencing a successful magic show that the community could enjoy in October at Andover Showplace Theater, Manager David Allen is adding several more events for the community to enjoy in lieu of the holiday season this year.(From Nov. 9 edition).
According to Allen the first event coming up next month at Andover Showplace Theater is a showing of the movie classic It’s A Wonderful Life on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. for a fee of $5.
Then the following day on Sunday, Dec. 2 community members can stop in to see The Comedy and Magic of Eric Thompson with doors opening at 5 p.m. and show time scheduled at 6 p.m. for a fee of $8 presale and $15 at the door.
As noted on the event page, “Eric Thompson has been delighting and entertaining audiences since the early 1980’s with his unique style of comedy, magic, and illusions. During his early career, Eric wrote a few jokes and worked on his delivery and presentation to win several consecutive amateur night competitions. As a result, Eric was booked to be the opening act for several headlining comedians that were on their national tour. In the mid-1980s, Eric launched his entertainment career with his own tour through more than eight states and Canada.”
Some of the people Thompson has worked with include Jay Leno, Drew Carey, Gallagher, Sinbad, Kenny Loggins, The Spinners, Peter, Paul and Mary.
He has also entertained audiences in places outside of the United States.
“My magic and comedy performance has allowed me some awesome opportunities to work with some of the biggest names in show business and to travel to some exotic, remote and exciting villages and cities in Africa, South America, Asia and Central America,” said Thompson. “I’ve performed at schools, churches, village centers, orphanages and children’s hospitals in Peru, Cuba, Burkina Faso, West Africa and Guatemala. I have even done my show for residents of a leprosy colony in China, as well as comedy clubs, theaters and stages in thousands of cities around the world and here in the USA.”
In addition to his experiences performing Thompson said that he also raises money for impoverished areas where people are hungry and poor.
“I have purchased hundreds of chickens and given them to people in some of the most remote and poor places where the people will likely die without aide,” said Thompson.”
Of many of Thompson’s experiences is highlighted in a video about him at https://vimeo.com/290188561.
If that isn’t enough for the community to get excited about Andover Showplace Theater will also be offering a Polar Express event at 11 a.m. (which is already sold out), as well as at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. that day.
Then later in the month on Saturday, Dec. 15 Allen said that the showplace will be offering a meet and greet with the Grinch that day at 6 p.m., followed by a showing of the film How the Grinch Stole Christmas starring Jim Carrey afterwards.
